**************************************** When she turned twelve, Mona (1), an Indian-born girl, began to wonder why and how she came to be where she was in a Western European family, and she wanted to know something about her birth parents back in Calcutta. Who could identify the persons who were involved in placing Mona in Europe and then facilitate contact with her ancestors in India? Who could do this in a discreet and sensitive manner and then arrange to follow up with the child to interpret the lacking information and to help her live with the inevitable holes in her story? The case workers at ISS have the knowledge, experience and expertise to do so.
Katia (2), is a 12 year old girl whose parents were Spanish emigrants in Switzerland. Her parents divorced in Switzerland and parental authority was granted to her mother. Katia and her father did not keep in touch after the divorce. While Katia was on holiday with a maternal aunt in Spain, her mother suddenly died. Her neighbours in Switzerland, a Swiss-Spanish couple, offered to look after the little girl if necessary. Katia's aunt in Spain was also willing to take the child in. Some authority needed to make a decision with regards to parental rights and custody in Katia's best interest.
Who could provide the necessary information on which to base such a decision? Who could help to sort out the legal systems involved ? ISS can help by combining the expertise of its staff in Spain and in Switzerland. The role of ISS is to bring together all parts of a problem, allowing the individuals or families involved to see all options available to them, thus helping them to make the most appropriate choices. The International Social Service (ISS) is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to helping individuals and families with personal or social problems resulting from migration and international movement. ISS's national branches, affiliated bureaux and correspondents in over 100 countries facilitate communication between social services to resolve these problems. The International Social Service provides help without discrimination of any kind. For further information about ISS, a unique agency for your unique problem, please leave a message on mail. |
