Governance
Non-profit organisations around the world face difficult challenges to stay relevant, viable and effective. They require a board of directors and membership who believe in their organization's mission and are committed to its success. For the most part, however, board members are also volunteers with the full-time priorities demanding attention. Chief executive officers are called upon to keep board members abreast of issues and focused on their mission. The governance-administration relationship is a critical element in highly effective non-profit organisations. Other key components will certainly contribute to an organisation's success or demise. Those components were identified in the new Statutes adopted on the 6th May 2010.
The International Council
The International Council forms the General Assembly of the ISS. It is the supreme decision-making body within the network. It meets at least once every two years and is composed of representatives of each national Branch, Affiliated Bureau. It also includes Honorary members who have contributed significantly to uplifting the quality of human life. The Council makes decisions about the main objectives and policies of the organisation.
